The story was okay but the big-screen adaptation was in serious need of help. At one scene, I thought "Ryan" (Blake Rayne) and his "momma" (Ashley Judd) were a young couple dating or possibly a young married couple, then the script reveals this was his "momma". They couldn't spring for some aging makeup or some gray hair or a few fake wrinkles to make it at least APPEAR she was old enough to be his mother?!!! I mean, that's the kind of stupidity seen throughout this movie. It was a decent attempt at a story but the story was "just okay" to begin with, and it seems obvious no one cared enough about it to really put much effort into the movie adaptation. The acting was sub-par and the songs...oh mercy. If you look at the cover art and think this is a movie about an Elvis impersonator, think again. I mean, they very loosely base this around the idea of an Elvis impersonator but DO NOT watch this thinking you're going to get some Elvis Presley music. The music and singing in this film - although someone was trying to sound like Elvis Presley - was just plain BAD. The story was mediocre at best and its translation to the big screen was just atrocious. There are far better "music" movies out there and while this story was okay, it just didn't make for a very interesting movie. Kudos for a valiant effort but it fell flat.
Anyone remember this movie? It's alright if you don't, because in a few days I won't.
