Typical mandated 50s BS happy ending. But what came before it's good. Mason miscast over two ball throwing scenes? GTFO. He was perfect.
Good, but bordering on after-school special territory. James Mason felt really miscast–watching him toss a football around is like watching a fish try to line dance. What saved this movie for me was the beautiful Cinemascope presentation and its use of space in the widescreen format, as well as the ending. I was really surprised to see the main character have a psychotic break, given the time period, and it was quite shocking how dark things got. It was decent, overall.
