Very sweet and pleasant, the leads are charming and suitably cute, especially Slate. The true standout is the deft, easy way it deals with abortion as a fact of life and just something the lead wants. That’s what elevates the film most of all beyond the very competent, solid if unremarkable romcom that surrounds it.
Humour didn't appeal, bailed after around 20 mins
Stop me if you've heard this one before: this is a romantic comedy where a one-night stand results in a pregnancy. Yeah, basically _Knocked Up_ (2007), with a twist. See, our lead character, Donna - played by the amazing Jenny Slate - is not in a good place, at all, to be adding another human to the population. Trust me, it's a love story, and a sweet one at that, but obviously the plot alone is going to be a problem for some people, and that's fine, go watch something else. Me, on the other hand, I liked that this approaching what tends to be a heavy subject that only serious dramas dare to touch, and does it in a way that's funny, while looking at the situation in an honest manner. I liked the romantic dynamic between Donna, and Max, and while the story is generally about the two of them, it is primarily about Donna. Overall a good movie. Slate is really who made it work for me. I do recommend this, but only to those who can handle a romcom centered around an unwanted pregnancy.
imagine making a joke about killing an unborn baby .. n using it as a material for ur horrible comedy stand ups .... ew this movie wasn't only cruel n inappropriate, but also so lame; jokes were so cringy not one bit funny n the drama were so weak i felt nothing watching it (except disgust) i did neither laugh nor tear up .. big failure
This film reminded me of so many other films that were supposed to be good because they tried to be edgy. This was a romantic comedy that was neither romantic nor funny. The edginess wasn't edgy at all. It reminded me of a convervative person trying to make jokes that they wouldn't normally make. The whole thing didn't work on any level for me. follow me at https://IHateBadMovies.com
