Strong start, limp finish. I enjoyed the spy elements to 'The Eiger Sanction', sure it's a bit cheesy and could feel like a Bond knock-off in parts, but all in all it was cool to see Clint Eastwood in that role. Unfortunately, while I wouldn't say it's bad, the rest of the film focuses on uninteresting - due to how dragged out it is - mountain climbing. It concludes with strong vibes of 1959's 'Third Man on the Mountain', a Disney film that is filled with mountain climbing. Like that aforementioned production, I didn't dislike what I was seeing but it's just not that intriguing to watch for an extended time. I'm rating this 3* as it's still a solid film, with neat cinematography, but it could've been so much more due to what it sets up initially.

If you saw a movie called Nordwand (North Face) you would understand this movie much better. Be warned however that Nordwand is a very heavy and hard to watch.

A classic mountain climbing movie based on true events. Eastwood in his element.

[spoiler]I remember the very first time I saw this and how gutted I was that George Kennedy played a baddie.[/spoiler] There's not a single likeable character in this. Even the wee dog's fucking offensive.

It was entertaining. Some of dialogue was wittier than I expected. Also very blunt and ridiculous. Funny. I wouldn't take this movie seriously. Clint works for an albino ex nazi called dragon. Clint got to look at a lot of ass and say stupid stuff, so I bet he had fun making it. Some pretty locations later on.
