_Killer Elite_ is like that time Grandpa sat on the vibrator: there was lots of action mixed in with the random babbling that didn't go anywhere. Still, it was fun seeing Robert Deniro and Clive Owen trapped in a Jason Statham movie.
Nothing major wrong with this film. Quite enjoyed it actually. Some good action sequences (it's got Jason Statham in it, so it should) and the storyline was fairly engaging. I'm think JS kept forgetting whether he was playing British or American though as I'm sure he slipped into his cringeworthy American accent a couple of times.
The story wasn't bad at all. There's more to keep the viewers engaged - a little surprise here and there - the tense was properly built so it didn't leave the viewers with the feeling "everything will come up nice in the end of the day". There's one thing that doesn't seem to fit well though, since it was introduced suddenly near the end with only a little hint before. The action sequences were good but not incredible - still enjoyable regardless.
Not sure how I missed this one. Not a bad wee Brit style mercenary / espionage yarn based on a true story. Gets extra points for its early 80s grimy London setting - especially the car fleet. Think a few years after Life on Mars / The Professionals, and it kind of plays a bit like tv shows of the era. Extra points also for Yvonne Strahovski’s role with her natural Aussie accent.
Based on a true story, but obviously peppered with what I'll just call the Hollywood effect, when they add to the story or take stuff out to try and make it "scene worthy". Whatever they took out made parts of the story cringe worthy. They don't need a girlfriend, love interest in any action film to be honest. Women that go see action films, like yours truly, don't care if there's a side story with some chick. Honestly I don't know how I missed this when it was in the theaters. Statham and DiNero are two of my favorites and Owen is definitely one of the more interesting action actors. The acting is solid. The action scenes are solid. The cinematography works. So the script, or whatever landed on the cutting room floor, screwed it up in places. Still worth a watch if you're in for an action flick.
