I read the book in school and thought it was really good (I'm not a fan of reading). The movie however was not nearly as good, but it's worth a watch, mainly because of Elizabeth Olsen :)

Not a giant fan of time piece movies, especially ones from the couple hundred years, so I went in expecting to feel kinda meh about this. First act fell completely flat for me,second act picked up the pace a bit, third act gets better if you're able to hang in long enough to get there but you're still waiting for it to wrap up long before it does. So here's the core issue in this movie though, it's main protagonist is supposed to be Madame Raquin who is really responsible for this whole mess in the first place. It wants you to feel sorry for her, but I felt absolutely nothing and in the end the entire movie fell flat to me.

It’s a pity because the story has prospect but it was killed by some weak performances, abrupt pacing and awkward dialogues. Some of the actors, most of all Olsen, gave the impression she was playing a contemporary character.
