Aladdin (2026) is the rare horror film that manages to be both aggressively loud and completely lifeless. It takes the familiar iconography — the lamp, the wishes, the supernatural bargain — and drains it of all magic, mystery, or thematic weight. What’s left is a shapeless, joyless slog that mistakes dim lighting and jittery editing for atmosphere. The film’s biggest failure is its total lack of identity. It wants to be a cursed‑object thriller, a folklore‑inspired nightmare, and a gritty character drama, but it never commits to any of them. Scenes feel stitched together from different drafts, characters behave with no internal logic, and the “horror” amounts to a handful of cheap jumps and murky CGI smoke. Performances range from wooden to bewildered, as if the cast wasn’t sure what genre they were in from scene to scene. The pacing is glacial, the mythology is underexplained, and the climax is so abrupt and anticlimactic it feels like the film simply gives up.
