Starts as a comedy about apprentice film makers. Becomes a criticism of the industry, the way it treats women, and the way famous people can steal from unknowns without consequences. Mixes a bit of their realizations for mostly comical effect. Ends up a bit weird, breaking the frontier between film and reality. However it's less than 1h30 but felt much longer. It is ok, but not sure what's missing to make it really work. The characters are a bit caricatural in the beginning, and there's an actual explanation to their attitude, which turns out to come from the same famous director. Their movie tentative are fun to watch evolve as they collaborate. The criticism part is good to know, but not that interesting to watch. I guess the same things happen in western cinema, there are probably famous examples. The lying and even shooting extra scenes to get an actress naked and then keeping only the sex scenes is sick, I never thought about this, but now I'm assuming it happened a lot some decades ago. As for the stealing of other ideas, there is no doubt this is omnipresent. The whole part from the teacher talking about it to her confronting the director is weak, with the exception of the blue starfish thing. As for the weird ending, it doesn't fit well with the rest and is superfluous. There is some potential and some good parts, but overall it fails to keep its promises.
