That was so lame. Depressingly lame.
I'm giving this a 3-star rating only because of the fight choreography and incredible gymnastic ability of Brian Le...and D.Y. Sao pulled his weight as well. (But remember, he's a pretty small guy so "pulled his weight" should be a warning.) How in the wide world of sports someone the size of Brian Le can move like he does is beyond me, but this is the second film I've seen him in and this guy has chops. Acting chops in addition to martial arts moves. Seriously, I think he could carry a movie on his own: he has screen presence and he carries himself with the confidence of a leading man. Unfortunately, all I've seen is him stuck in supporting roles, but I honestly believe he could carry a movie on his own. Apart from those two, unfortunately, this is a one-star (if that) film that blows chunks and needs to disappear into nothingness. It's that bad. The acting is awful (except for Brian Le) and the dialogue is even worse. The fight scenes are good, and somewhat chaotic, so you have to pay attention. Apart from Brian Le and the fight scenes, however, there's absolutely NOTHING to enjoy about this...and the horribly cheesy conclusion just added to how bad this was. I watched it once but even with Brian Le and the great fight scenes, I couldn't sit through this one again.
