This is a ParTeb stan account first and foremost
A fun, creative take on Hamlet set in GTA V, but not without its flaws. The concept is great, especially as a pandemic-era experiment, but some scripted-feeling moments take away from the spontaneity that makes projects like this shine. The in-game HUD being left on also hurts immersion. That said, it’s full of fun moments and never drags. When the improvisation works, it’s hilarious, and the mix of Shakespearean drama with GTA’s chaotic world adds to the charm. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s an easy, entertaining watch for fans of digital theater or creative reimaginings.
The form is interesting and well-executed and it might well end up going down as one of the rare true pieces of ‘COVID art’, so that’s good. Also think there’s something that will end up being very interesting about what it captures about the very specific moment of GTA: Online that we’re living through – a massive bewildering world but ultimately a bit of a blunt awkward tool, and in 10 years and once the next GTA comes out it will seem so weird and backwards and primitive. But overall I just didn’t quite find it as moving or important as a lot of other reviews seemed to! Sorry! I did unironically prefer this to Hamnet though, so there’s that
Literally peak cinema nothing will top this
Extremely creative and original, this documentary is both entertaining and fascinating. The transposition of emotions, movements and expressions into the environment of the Grand Theft Auto game results in hilarious and peculiar moments. With impeccable editing and engaging dynamics, it's a captivating movie from start to finish.
