Awesome looking fishman effects. General plot is meh. Overall a fun film.
A pretty straightforward but charming horror film. I got so invested in the developing relationship between Saito and Benson that I completely forgot about the monster until it reappeared lol. Really loved the actors, even though there wasn't much talking in this film but they still managed to make the characters compelling enough to watch when literally nothing happened. And I loved attention to the details -- the way they made Benson's teeth more yellow after he smoked some cigarettes, nice touch.
I expected a B movie. This one was a step above. Nicely done!
Unfortunately, this is a bad movie. It's not because of the low budget per se but rather the low quality work and decisions. The cuts are extremely odd. In dialogs there are some characters shown for just split seconds and in action scenes the camera perspective is constantly switching around. The bad writing and acting of Bronson together with the flashbacks in the end are almost comedic. The monster is so obviously a person in a bodysuit that one wonders how the actors could even stay in character. Sometimes, less is more. If there's barely anything to work with, this should have been the approach, imho.
