Read the book multiple times and the symbols and everything in it is just too well written. George Orwell can convey any political message so cleverly. Also this adaptation is pretty good.
A somewhat mild bastardization of the original book by Orwell. This film was was funded in part by the CIA, and I attribute that to the reasons why multiple part of Orwell's original message of the book, including its ending, were changed from the film. While the film has its moments, while the animation is beautiful, and the music compelling, unfortunately the changes in plot cannot be overlooked. It changes the message completely from the original critique Orwell made, and transforms it into a propaganda film that attempts to portray the animal's situation with Jones as potentially better than where they ended up. And that any attempt of rebellion against an oppressive society would necessarily doom them to the same fate. If you wish to experience this story in its best form, please read the book or if you must, listen to an audiobook. In that way you can experience the actual message Orwell was attempting to give you, not what the CIA wants you to think Orwell meant. The film is not worth watching. But I also find it the height of irony that a book that gives a critique of Authoritarianism was turned into propaganda by an actual government agency.
its not very good but its the best we got. this movie released a year after stalin kicked the bucket. the plot is not one to one with the book. the book is actually parodying real history. but this movie's changes to the plot doesnt work. its impact is less. ending is changed too. read the book first. then maybe watch this if you feel like it
I decided to start watching the 1954 animation adaptation to prep for the 2026 Serkis Animal Farm. It pretty much a fine movie and for being one of the earliest British animation film it ain’t too bad. However I felt that ending that I didn’t like very much when compared to the actual book ending, which feels like go against theme of the Animal Farm book. Nevertheless there are some tense scenes such as the trial aftermath following the Chicken rebellion and that one major character fate which is still just saddening. Still think it’s better than that Kelsey Grammer’s Animal Farm live action and even if not very perfect adaptation, could still be terrifying at times for 1954, looking at you design of Farmer Jones.
Interesting adaption of the Orwell classic tale. Animated better than I was led to believe it was and I felt it took time where it needed to without feeling bloated like so many films today.
