I think I liked the idea of this more than I liked the actual documentary. I guess I was hoping more on the actual repair side and less focus on those that worked there. It was enjoyable, but not what I was wanting out of it.

This was really beautiful, I just wish there had been more to it. I would have definitely watched a full docuseries about this topic.

Cinematography during the repairing segments is just amazing. The interviewing parts not so much, though. Stories are interesting and somewhat moving. Good documentary. I just wish the quality in cinematography was consistent through all. I enjoyed the music performance at the end.

In 'The Last Repair Shop', the work of a repair shop in Los Angeles is highlighted, in which musical instruments for students are fixed up. The topic lends itself very well to the short documentary category, as almost everything there is to say can be told in just about 40 minutes. In terms of presentation, 'talking head' segments alternate with shots of the actual repairs, creating a solid dynamic, with the appropriate music also playing its part. The interviews with the employees of the workshop and with students also offer interesting insights into the significance of the work. Sometimes it does seem a little absurd that every single person in the documentary has an emotional experience to talk about. But that's probably just part of making short films with awards aspirations.
