Dance bitches! This is like discovering a B-side of an old band you love and finding out it's as good as the A-side and one of the artist's best songs. This one would obviously be the more experimental B-side to Spring Breakers, and yes. It's just as good. Which makes it one of the greatest contributions to cinema. Ever. Sorry but it is. I mean Harmony has done the impossible again. He wasn't lying when he said he has gone into video games - this shit was an 80 minute cut scene! How can one not give this 5 stars? True genius is when something is invented and it seems almost unbelievable that nobody had come up with it before because it's so obvious that it's a good idea. Here, you have that with emotion portrayed through not only colour but the character's blood/heat levels and breathing affecting the colours and visuals. This also makes an artistic statement on souls and the taking of soul from the self or others but I won't go fully into that now - I need to watch it again for starters. This use of colour and shade for expression is of course more in alignment with paintings than photography/cinematography and seriously, no matter where you press pause it could be a framed painting. It's paintings in movement form which is a reminder of and a new invention of what film came from: the 'motion picture' - which makes the 4:3 aspect ratio even more fitting - and you also have that genius I spoke about with the use of perhaps the newest progression in art to date: AI, and utilizing it for a greater vision rather than shunning it. This also does the whole 'spiritual world vs. material world' thing so effortlessly too (the beast's wings etc). Only Harmony could win me over on AI - he already did in an interview I watched last year but seeing him actually put it to screen is just another level. Nowadays, the more I hear the argument against cinematic AI the more dumb it sounds - it always seems to come from a place of defending 'the industry' or 'the art form' and I don't know about you but I have never been for either. That's why Harmony is my favourite. The colour stuff with emotion being expressed through infrared extends to the landscape shots too, with the demonic city of Miami at the forefront and its dark "angel" looking down from the clouds above (that image will never leave my mind). "Magical." Bro started believing in magic the same time as me. Only a matter of time before Ye starts to talk about it. AGGRO DR1FT is the movie that 2020's me has been waiting for because it somehow, almost inexplicably, perfectly represents the culture and time we are currently in. Post-COVID. Everyone's in a slump. Everybody dreams about escape. Religion and (actual) spirituality is returning. Everything around us is pornographic and violent and loveless. The material world is growing bigger and bigger. Harmony has always been about love, in every single one of his features. It's controversial to some because he, like me, loves everyone and I'm glad he's finally been more overt with the fact that love rules all, and that God is love. All sinners with the devil faces go with God. We are always solitary assassins when we live in the material world. As Harmony says: "I just try to make that shit as based as possible, I just try to make it based, I try to bring the heat, that's all I've tried to do."
