A police precedural, perhaps the original one. Barry Fitzgerald at his best. I give it a 7 (good) out of 10.
They say that crime series and movies took this as a model and I understand it, great movie and great Barry Fitzgerald
If you're a fan of any of the metric ton of police procedural shows that dominate broadcast television these days, this is probably required viewing for you. Notable for the cinematography, but the writing - particularly the voice-over bits - is a little absurd at times.
"people have always had short attention spans." loved seeing late '40s NYC.
I swear I don't know how to review old movies. This was old timey and black and white and over-acted like everything back in the day. I did like how this one flirted with mockumentary style and offered a view of the real New York back in the day 1938, so I guess that's a 'like' from me.
