For not opening the mail
This was a film that did well to deal with a difficult topic. The story pits a single woman against a family, both put into an unpleasant situation not of their own making, and the way in which they both handle themselves. Shohreh Aghdashloo's performance was superb. Every time I see her perform, it's better than the last. She is an amazing talent, and she was rightfully honored with numerous awards for her performance in this film. What stuck out to me, that I didn't see mentioned in other reviews of this film, was that the two lead women, Jennifer Connelly and Shohreh Aghdashloo's were subject to the whims of abusive men throughout the film. Whether it was emotional or physical abuse, they were both put in positions that had great impacts on the decisions they made. The film also showed how a municipality can make abusive, careless decisions that have great effects throughout the community and in individual lives.
