I couldn't make it through. Not involving at all. Between the slow story that involved people having dreams are plenty of unnatural character waffle that sounds like a dodgy Tarrantino knockoff but with less swearing and pseudo intellectual meanings. From the start the Depp voice over tries to be deep and thought provoking about a fish - give me a break ... and that kind of sums up the feel and intention of this movie . Not very funny for a comedy either. There is a decent movie in here somewhere maybe, but it's too draining an experience to look. Stimulating plot is few and far between. Every scene made me not care more than the last. Quirky characters for the sake of it.
I can't remember the last time that I saw a movie quite like this one. Some parts of the film were absolutely fabulous, other parts (specifically, Depp's monologues in the early part of the movie) were terrible. But the acting - wow! We all know about Depp and Dunaway, but who knew that Lili Taylor had those kinds of chops? She seems to regularly play meek characters, so it was great to see her kill it in a role where she could stretch out. But as good as so many parts of the movie are, it still felt that there was a better movie in there. It seemed like at times it was trying to be both an epic and a black comedy, and that is a tough line to walk. I would love to see this movie in the hands of a different director. follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
Kusturica must have made the script very well placed.
