Waaaaaay better than I expected. Slasher comedy fans wet dream. Roth nails the tone for this one expertly. Best kills I may have ever seen from an over the top standpoint. Perhaps 10-15 min shorter would have benefited pacing, but small gripe. Some silly choices here and there, but overall a solid 8.0. Happily surprised.
When the first panic scene involves
someone frantically trying to unlock a smartphone at their workplace when a regular telephone is literally in the shot
, you know you're in for a waste of time. I was misled by the IMDb score. Modern slashers are still 99% trash these days.
So bad it was funny. Seriously, how did this movie get such good rarings?
Me back in 2016: "Why didn't Eli Roth not make this into a movie instead of "Knock Knock" and "Green Inferno"? I'll totally watch it." Present day: Well, here we are. I can't believe my wish came true, but is the film good? It's got flaws and some things could have been better, as the kill scenes could have had a bit more punch to them, as they just end and move on to the next scene. But overall, I enjoyed it. I'm glad it's getting well-received by critics and audiences because if it wasn't, then this review would be me apologizing.
An entertaining movie that you knew would be pretty gory due to Eli Roth as director. Story wise it’s I Know What You Did Last Summer but with Thanksgiving pretty much. Though despite Eli Roth as director, the movie is surprisingly well made. Though I can’t say I have seen many movies directed by him. I just know not many have been rated good. Thanksgiving is none of that PG-13 watered down Horror from this day and age. It’s much closer to old school 80’s slasher. Just note that you probably should never watch this before Thanksgiving dinner or any Turkey dinner. There’s one pretty gruesome, stomach turning and messed up dinner scene. As you’d expect if you saw the old spoof trailer. The very end just holds the movie back a bit from greatness. Too Horror movie cliched and a little corny.
