The first movie to ever make me cry.
Gorgeous story of a mother and son. Deeply touching, beautifully shot, expertly paced.
This was a good watch. I had never heard of it but it had decent ratings so I gave it a shot. Realistic and emotional storytelling of a life of a mother and her son. The movie did a great job of building the characters out, so you really get a good understanding of both their perspectives. This isn't some crazy or new-concept movie, but it's a sweet and emotional movie that did make me cry for like the last 30 minutes straight. I felt such empathy for both the mother and the son, I couldn't help but feel the same emotions they were, which goes to say how well the story was told.
I love how it deals with issues such as migration, the clash of identities, roots, returning home. Magnificent photography, hypnotic all the time. Powerfull characters too.
Beautiful Korean slice of life drama about an immigrant mother and son. This is peak mother son dynamics and so emotional from start to finish. It left me in an emotional state and I felt like calling my parents afterwards. The characters are so relatable with two great central performances. It tackes more themes than I thought it would especially in the second half. I also learned a lot about Korean culture watching this, it's so beautiful, but also heartbreaking when you witness that culture being squandered in order to fit in. It seems to me that they purposely set this in the 90's to include the themes or immigration to that extent. It's definitely a theme that's still relevant today but setting it in the past gives off the impression that it's outdated. The pine needle story was perfect. Beautiful cinematography, love the aspect ratio and some long takes. They ended the movie at the perfect time.
