A minimalist story in which the future that the journalist asks the children he interviews about is also the representation of a complex present in an unstable North America. With obvious references to "Alice in the city" (1974), this generational meeting is transformed into a somewhat pessimistic vision of a youth that has an uncertain future before it, but looks at it with the optimism that maturity has lost. .
Johnny: “Your kid says he likes NYC better LA.” Viv: “Little traitor.” ‘C’mon C'mon’ is a smartly written movie by Mike Mills that’s funny, yet dramatic and grounded, and shot beautifully in rich black and white. The movie is held together with two fantastic performances from Joaquin Phoenix and newcomer Woody Norman, who were so pure and sweet together. I can guess most of their scenes were playfully improvised. The supporting actors Gaby Hoffmann and Scoot McNairy also deliver great performances. Throughout the movie, Phoenix plays a radio journalist named Johnny, who interviews kids with a series of questions, with one question that keeps being asked is what their think the future is going to be like with their answers being beautifully insightful. Some of it stayed with me long after the movie ended. I’m surprised not a lot of people are talking about this, in terms of award show talk or just in general.
An art house remake of _Big Daddy_. Everything about this movie excelled, from the acting to the cinematography to the directing, but the banality of the story kept me from appreciating any of those things enough.
Wow that was fantastic. C’mon C’mon is a film that acts as a device to widely reflect on mankind and so marvelously touch each viewer’s heart in such an outstandingly real way that no one can truly come close to doing justice by describing or attempting to capture with words, it’s without a doubt a film with the ability to change one’s outlook on life. It’s the best film of the year as of now.
I used to take copious notes while reviewing movies but after creating more than 1100 reviews the practice seemed unnecessary as it became harder and harder to find good movies. I loved this movie and I wish I had written down all of the thoughts and emotions I had while watching it. It's not for everyone and it takes a while to get into it but the viewer is rewarded for the patience. First and foremost, this movies works because of the incredible subtle performances by Phoenix and Hoffman. One can watch this movie on many levels - the one that stuck out the most for me was how difficult it is to be a parent (the fabulous The Lost Daughter also touched a bit on this). I can't tell you how many times I saw Phoenix struggle to acquire the new skill and I said to myself "I remember that". follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
