Struggling to come to terms with his wife's death, a writer for a newspaper adopts a gruff new persona in an effort to push away those trying to help.
Episode 1
Tony's cantankerous funk -- which he calls a superpower -- is taking a toll on his co-workers. Meanwhile, a new writer starts at The Tambury Gazette.
Episode 2
Thinking he has nothing to lose, Tony contemplates trying heroin. He babysits his nephew and starts to bond -- just a bit -- with Sandy.
Episode 3
Tony hires a sex worker -- but it's not what you think. A trip to the comedy club turns awkward. The nurse gives Tony a piece of her mind.
Episode 4
Tony pushes back on Matt's idea to go on a blind date. Also, Tony makes an introduction and issues an uncharacteristic apology.
Episode 5
Brian (finally) convinces Tony and company to visit his apartment for a story. Meanwhile, Matt receives a distressing call from his son's school.
Episode 6
Making an earnest attempt to be happy -- or at least not miserable -- Tony gives some long overdue recognition to those who have stood by him.

Watching this, I wanted a job just like the one Ricky has. You can come in late, go and interview a few local people, have lunch and dinner outside, leave work whenever you want to, come home and smoke weed everyday, drink alcohol every night and still get no hangover whatsoever the next morning, and still get paid lots of money at the end of the month that you can pay the local hobo, the local prostitute and everyone else and spend money left and right. What a life, and he still wants to kill himself. Play some video games Ricky, that'll busy your mind.

Finished the first season and I am thinking, if nothing else, he can be thankful for the straight sunny British weather for 6 straight episodes. 😄
It takes a couple of (quite good nonetheless) episodes to really get on track but then it becomes a very, very, very good show, extremely funny, sad, deep and light at the same time. Really lovely. Plus, it could have absolutely worked as a single season, with a very nice ending, so I'm curious to see what he did in season 2.
Very simple series with some heartwarming moments along the way. Lovely use of music and songs. It almost felt like the Christmas Carol without Christmas. The message is kind of yelled in your face, but I guess that's part of the humor?
