> Musical chairs on who is the bad doctor The three main leads Kang-hoon , Joon-suk and Sang-chul take turns in inflicting damage to each at the expense of the patients life ; especially Kang-hoon who is greedy , ambitious and immoral but you cannot hate this guy as he was bought up with his own pain and hardwork and there is a reason why he behaves like he is . Brain turned out to be far from what I was expecting. From what I was expecting a romance emerging against the backdrop of a hospital setting. For better or for worse, this is far from what Brain actually is. I was sold out and decide to watch a funny scene b/w Kang-hoon and Ji-Hye when she writes the data on his hand (ep 14) . To me Kang-hoon looked like an unique doctor from the plethora of the dramas ; he is scarred so much to be like and thats the selling point of the show . I would say the driving plot behind this drama is the politics of the hospital and the battling of egos amongst the surgeons. This is part way facilitated by how Kang Hoon's unchanging motivation is to be recognized as the best neurosurgeon, regardless of who he has to step on to get there. While I found this whole theme fairly interesting from a character development point of view, it did get tiresome when other plot threads were overlooked in favour of yet another scene of arguments over who was going to get to do the next complex (and therefore prestigious) operation. I think there's no one can play the role of Lee Kang Hoon better than Shin Ha Kyun. Arrogance, selfishness, obsession, everything that was the part of Kang Hoon's character, was expressed very well by Shin Ha Kyun. With this drama, I think almost inarguably its strength lay in the quality of the cast. Superb performances all-round. This isn't just the main cast, but also the secondary characters who played an important role in giving colour and a sense of warmth to the hospital setting. I especially enjoyed the little romances hinted at and forming in the background throughout the whole drama, which were not a focus but were adorable nonetheless. Also the two female leads Ji-Hye and Yoo-jin are both strong and you wouldn't guess who is the first lead until the last scene of penultimate episode. One grounds Ji-Hye when he is prideful and the other gives him Wings when he losses his pride ; it doesn't matter as Kang Hoon cannot and will not accept help and he believes he is the best and climb on his won legs even when cripple by politics. Special mention to Kang-Chul who build a convincing repo with all the staff and Kang-Hoon and there is a reason why he is what he is ! Overall, I was addicted to Brain while I was watching it, and got through it back-to-back in 26 hours on a Wednesday (Workday). Although it wasn't everything I hoped and thought it would be, it definitely had something indescribable that kept me watching fanatically, compelled to know what happens next. I'd definitely recommend people give it a try. If you're trying to find something a bit different from the usual formulaic Korean rom-com, this might be just what you're looking for.
