far from perfect but it had potential and would’ve likely gotten better if it hadn’t been cancelled so early on. the cast is better than the material, which doesn’t always hit the mark, but is grittier and more realistic than any network show on right now. it reminds me of the original law and order, just a cheesier, more subtle with the copaganda, and sometimes scattered in terms of plotting & consistency. acting wise everyone was solid, but the stand out imo, was jenifer lewis, who plays a self assured lesbian judge facing period typical plot issues but with gravitas and heart. she’s just fantastic and that plot line was a lot more sympathetic and complex than expected—ep 8 especially. overall, the writing mostly holds up and it’s interesting to see them address systemic issues on gender, race & class (that ignorant idiots claim only popped up in the last decade or so) from a 1995 perspective. the world has come far in 30 years but in a lot of ways times haven’t changed at all.
