Love in the Clouds starts strong, offering a well-paced first half with a surprisingly sympathetic villain and a tight emotional setup. The fantasy elements, visuals, and growing bond between the leads work beautifully early on — the romance feels genuine, and both characters believe in each other even when they’re surrounded by chaos. But the second half doesn’t hold its momentum. The story begins to drag with overreaching plot turns, leaning too heavily on unnecessary misunderstandings and repeated lies. These moments stretch the drama instead of deepening it, and some key details toward the finale — especially around the final array — are rushed or missing, weakening the payoff. The second male leads don’t help either. Their clingy, overly emotional behavior doesn’t need sympathetic endings, and the show tries too hard to redeem characters who don’t earn it. At least Fuyue sets a good example by walking away early instead of obsessing, which is rare in this genre. On the positive side, the K-drama-style birth-switch twist adds refreshing novelty compared to the typical wuxia amnesia trope. It gives the story a modern flavor even when the plotting wavers. Overall, the drama is a mix of strong romance, a solid first half, and a messy second half. Despite pacing issues and overextended conflicts, it’s still an enjoyable fantasy romance with standout chemistry and a few fresh surprises.
