I just discovered that Michelle Monaghan and Ruth Wilson are two different people.
Considerable investment in the two main characters offsets a rather lackluster story easily eclipsed by a passing knowledge of real life cases of administrative malfeasance that lead to death and injury.
It was a nice show, different stuff for UK show. It felt like a side story set in the world of Utopia, with strong conspiracy elements and a solid atmosphere. The cinematography stood out. Emma and Wilson worked well together and brought nice duo to the show. Hamza gave a strong comedic performance as a clumsy spy. Based on the 1st season, i do not know how this will evolve in second season, like a pair of investigators to solve crimes ? do not see that work.
Emma Thompson is really incredible. Other than that this goes in the “nice to watch but you also don’t miss out on much” category.
What a joke. Since it started so well, I'll start with the best, Thompson and Wilson. That's about it. Nearly everything else almost felt purposely made to frustrate me. Borderline watchable characters with overly predictable and hammy personalities. "Slow Horses" managed to perfectly scale the humour and realism. This, on the other hand, tips the scale completely. Since it's based on a novel, the plot had to be good, and it was, although the jarring exposition and constant generic silliness pulled me out way too many times. Some will enjoy it, but I feel most will get bored.
