Well, I binged it. Despite so much going for it, everything fell flat. The storylines were very predictable, there was something 'slightly off' with the costumes, set, and sometimes even words they used for that time. This didn't come across as a British series. I don't know...so much potential, I mean books and a Sherlock holmes type crime solver. Problem is, at the end of each case, I didn't even care.
Nothing special but not bad either. In the end I was underwhelmed.
I watched episode 3-5, and gave up part way through episode 6. As a librarian and book lover, I adored the title screen's animation. The show has a decent list of actors, excellent production design. The concept and stories promised much, but I found it to be too slow for my taste.
I heard bad things about this show, but I'm enjoying episode 1. The pacing is key, poise and pretence ought be expected difficult to distinguish in fiction, and in a mystery, the measure of exactly how much is given away, without making too much a song and dance of holding something back, though it is there, as a card, a face card?..an Ace? We will see
Cool ingredients with the bookstore and Sherlock vibes but it was just ok. A bit undercooked but a chill watch.
