Brand new show on CBC set on location in Surrey BC. So nice to see shows that show CDN culture. Good discussions of current issues. I like the main character and her work with her training officer.

The writing has a hook. The action is intense. The lead character is multifaceted. The casting is solid. I really liked the direction of the storytelling. It opens up a window into the complex reality of race in the mosaic that is Canada. There was something very familiar about the tone of this series. When I investigated further, I found out why. The Creator of ALLEGIANCE, Anar Ali, was also a story editor and writer on TRANSPLANT, a series I have rated an 8 (great). Both dramas explore the social subtext of ethnic identities. When media broadens our understanding of each other, we all benefit. I give this series an 8 (depth) out of 10.
