The problem with the long-running _A Place in the Sun_ is that it's too samey. The assortment of presenters are charming enough but the types of people, places, properties, and even budgets are all very similar - certainly these days. They are generally all middle-to-late aged Brits wanting a holiday home for around £100,000 (give or take £30,000) because they just want to sunbathe all day and drink all night. It's rare that there's consideration about the country's wider cultural appeal or a desire to learn the local language. It doesn't exactly paint Brits in a brilliant light - it's basically the property-buying show for the Benidorm crowd. It's unchallenging afternoon telly but it's certainly not appointment TV. Much better property buying shows are the UK-based _Escape to the Country_ on the BBC, and _Fantasy Homes By The Sea_ on Really.
