Write Send chocolate Don't die
The protagonists were fantastic but the film lacked something, leaving me wanting more. The cinematography was simultaneously bleak and beautiful but it lacked that strong sense of purpose. The two leads delivered stellar performances but they could have done so much more if the director or writer had taken a risk and given the storyline a compelling point of view.
it's a romance with a unique setting, the songs of course are lovely and some so meaningful to the story... i wonder if they're all real? What you don't show and hear in a story of a person, love the quietness of some moments and the trust that the actors are going to be able to deliver us these emotions like some songs do
[IFFR '26] Writer Ben Shattuck has adapted one of the short stories from his anthology _The History of Sound: Stories_ (2024), which focuses solely on the relationship between two characters during their journey through Maine capturing recordings of traditional songs. Perhaps this is why one part of the story may struggle to find its balance with the rest of the narrative. Regarding the lack of sensuality or emotion in the relationship between Lionel and David, it's part of the narrative restraint adopted by the director, a grammatical bareness that is exposed through conflictual absence and expressed from the melancholy of absence rather than the physicality of presence. But this doesn't hinder the film's conveying of the story's understated, romantic depth.
