Unique, Brutal and Artistic Chup is an intelligent, mature and more of an artistic revenge thriller which is crafted in giving homage to a brilliant filmmaker Guru Dutt. Represented as an ode to his last film Kaagaz ke Phool which was criticised heavily and was bashed ruthlessly in 1959 which led to end of his filmmaking journey and his depression. The film on the onset has deliberately added romance and a serial killings, happening simultaneously which keeps you intrigued if the killer will ever be caught. The screenplay isn't very fast paced and takes time to get you engrossed. The films music is inspired from Guru Dutt's films and is extremely soothing especially the song Gaya Gaya. On the whole, Chup is an intense thriller which has some gritty drama and suspense filled scenes. Dulquer Salman shocks us in a new role. Time and again, he has been re-inventing himself and does the same with Chup. His role is dark and the Mallu hero plays it with aplomb. He is intense and his dialogue delivery is also on point. Sunny Deol makes a comeback after a long time. He is amazing as a cop and brings a lot of depth to the film. Pooja Bhatt gets a neat role and she is impressive too. Shreya Dhanwantary has a critical role and she does absolute justice to her role. This actress is here to stay. Overall, Chup is a unique crime thriller which is backed by a terrific lead performance by Dulquer and has some well shaped plot shifts which keeps your engagement and intrigue alive. A thumping BGM add to the films mood adequately. The film's climax however seemed a bit rushed and abrupt and the most important element was fast forwarded. However, I would have appreciated films like this to be more enjoyable in the comfort of home via OTT platforms rather than taking the efforts to watch it in big screen.
