Avis de la communauté (1)
Theroux exposes not just the fervent beliefs of the settlers but also the deeply unequal reality they impose on the Palestinian communities around them. Nowhere is this clearer than in Hebron, where entire streets have been emptied of Palestinians under military protection for a few hundred settlers, creating a ghost town that silently indicts the cost of occupation. What makes the documentary so effective is its quiet refusal to sanitise what it observes. Without grandstanding, Theroux lays bare the asymmetry: settlers speak freely, armed and defiant, while Palestinians live under surveillance, restriction, and threat. The power imbalance is unmissable, and Theroux’s restrained presence allows it to speak for itself. It’s a chilling portrait of how ideology, when backed by force, can reshape not just land, but lives.
