I give full marks to this movie for the ambitious tale that is trying to be told. The difficulty in telling this story is that it requires the viewer to sit through a fair amount of setup until we start to get into the really meaty stuff. The movie is really a play and is both the best thing and the worst thing about it - I think the actors do a very good job at portraying their very damaged characters. Once there it is pretty interesting and a long way from where it started. I can't say that I loved it but I appreciate the effort. I can't think of another movie quite like it. follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
Essentially a play. So the dialogue has to be good and it is. The issue is, how long can you stretch out one setting without any interesting events occuring whilst relying on two characters dialogue to provide the stimulus? Not very far really. Especially in this style. These are some pretty real but also boring characters. If you watch a movie to escape reality or to be entertained then don't bother, because this movie is what youre escaping from. I didn't really care for these characters either, as real and relatable they may be. Many times, just as the direction in the dialogue was revealing a characters trait, insecurity or giving intensity, the movie would pull back from that back into the mundane gawping of two people. Also there is no relief. It tries to be so real it's like a laser beat and becomes a little unreal. In reality people hate tension and break it in many ways. In this it just seems a normal thing again and again. By the end supposed to feel bad for lonely Jackie. She's a hot chick in New York for Christ's Sake. Go out for a drink. Then we're supposed to feel bad for Michael because he's lonely, which to honest I don't. The big emotional confessional at the end didn't work for me. If ever two people needed a hobbie or a like minded person, which is who they are yet as they're completely inept to understand. .. it's frustrating. There is no big message here. Nothing a mature adult won't know.
