I have never been a big fan of Lelouch, even the ultra-popular “L’aventure c’est l’aventure” left me unfazed but “La Bonne Année” really knocked me out, this is Ventura and Fabian’s best part ever. Lino is playing a self-parody of his usual roles but, up to the last minute, he is a softie. The noir/policier part of the movie is just background (a MacGuffin really). Never a dull moment, no wonder Kubrick loved it.
