Flat out, this is one of the worst films in the 007 franchise. It repeats the previous movie's plot almost exactly. There are a bunch of really dumb joke shots (I'm looking at you pigeon). Jaws comes back, and has a dumb final act story line. The Bond girl is just kind of meh. The villain is boring. I just could keep going for a long time on this. But again, to be honest, I could watch this anytime because hell, it's a Bond film.
I like that the Close Encounters of a Third Kind song is played when the buttons are pressed to get into a secret room. Otherwise this is probably the silliest of the Bonds. Roger Moore is good form at least and Jaws back isn't bad. Except....he falls in love ? It was also whacky enough to keep my 5 yr old niece entertained.
One of the weakest Bond Movies ever!
A Bond film that aims to take the franchise to new heights—literally—but ends up losing its balance between spectacle and storytelling. Moonraker stands out for its visual ambition and its bold venture into outer space, which, while innovative at the time, may now feel disconnected from the original spirit of Ian Fleming's creation. The true stars of the film are Ken Adam's production design and Derek Meddings' special effects. From stunning locations to elaborate space sequences, the visual craftsmanship is undeniably impressive. However, the script, while including the series' trademark gadgets and over-the-top villains, lacks the emotional depth and intrigue that defined earlier entries. Roger Moore delivers his usual charming and laid-back portrayal of James Bond, but his performance feels somewhat constrained by a story that leans too heavily into absurdity. The comedic moments, though occasionally effective, often undermine the film's credibility—especially when dealing with larger-than-life foes like Jaws, who returns in a more cartoonish role. Despite its flaws, the film delivers entertainment through well-executed action sequences and a consistently brisk pace. Moonraker is, at its core, a visually dazzling adventure that sacrifices Bond's essence in favor of over-the-top spectacle. It’s a fun ride for those seeking a lighthearted experience, but it may not fully satisfy fans who prefer the more grounded tone of the franchise's earlier days.
