This could very well have been a play or an audio-drama. It didn't NEED to be a film, but it was fine in that format. I watched mostly because I'll see anything Aya Cash is a part of, and she's great in this film. Her main costar, Josh Ruben, is also pretty solid, having great chemistry with Cash. The film itself is mostly the two of them telling stories to each other and bantering. Chris Redd shows up for about 20 minutes to spice up this two-hander, but again, it's still people sitting around and talking. I was never bored, but your mileage may vary depending upon how much visual stimulation you need in your films.
A good movie to watch at the campfire, just not as scary. An interesting premise (two people in a secluded cabin telling scary stories to each other) that is very well directed and fairly well performed but comes up as short as a broke toddler when it comes to the hackneyed, clichéd and fatally predictable script. What could've been really good movie just winds up as a curiosity.
i showed up for Aya Cash, but i stayed for the chemistry she had with Josh Ruben.
Really enjoyed my time with this one! Scare Me is a witty hodgepodge of mini stories and creative vignettes tied loosely together around two writers at differing stages of their careers. Solid comedic beats with some clumsy drama makes for a very original comedy-horror, but a somewhat shoehorned ending takes off some of the edge built over the runtime. An easy recommendation if you can see past some of the bumps and bruises. And as a personal aside, Aya is just great and as sassy as ever in this. Been a big fan since I discovered her in You're The Worst. Think I'll watch anything she's in going forward.
