The country of the free.
Like a football game, _Blue Bayou_ moves ahead in starts and spurts despite some missteps. It eventually scores some points but fumbles the ending. The acting was on point, though, even the young Sydney Kowalske.
I thought the story was a bit slow paced, but when you do try to settle in, you want to ride to the end. The end delivers the truth many adopted immigrants face. Definitely a tear jerker at the end. Being Asian myself, I hear a lot of these types of stories in our own circles. It's very unfortunate.
This is a hard-hitting drama that does little to ever be comic relief. It is not going to be enjoyable to everyone, but that is the point. The story is deep, the production is nice, and it is stressful. There is a reason this is loved in some circles, and there is a reason some don't like it. I am amongst those that appreciate this movie. Rating: 3.5/5 - 80% - Would Recommend
