Full disclosure, I think Matt Damon is one of the most undervalued actors in the business. Just look at his range of performances - the butt of the joke in OCEANS, a man reduced in DOWNSIZING, a meticulous and idealistic car designer in FORD V FERRARI, an action star in the BOURNE franchise, and now, a redneck American trying to make good for his daughter in a foreign world. Matt Damon is a good actor. This is a good movie. The acting is right on it’s mark. The tone is gritty. The pace is heartfelt but real. I give this film a 7 (good) out of 10.
this is loosely based on the Amanda Knox story, but by changing the names and location they don't have to pay her for it Hollywood at its greedy best......back to the film, its just average TBH. 5 out of 10. its like at least 40 mins too long.
_Stillwater_ was good. Long, but a well-made movie. I remember hearing about this when it came out, and being from Oklahoma, it was a big deal here; so, I thought it was just a story about an Okie working oil rigs. Nope. The movie really drops you into a story not knowing what is going on, to the point where I thought I missed a scene or the stream skipped a chapter. Nope. That's just how the story is told. One moment we're in Oklahoma, the next we're in France. I was super confused by this, but once the story gets moving, the details are revealed, and it never slows down. For the most part this is a heavy drama. There is a crime element to it, but not in an action sense - think _Taken_, but then remove Liam Neeson, because we're working within reality here. Matt Damon is really carrying the movie, and he is phenomenal. Being from Oklahoma, yeah, he nailed it. This is fully a character-based, emotional drama. Don't expect _Taken_ or _Rambo: Last Blood_. I can't think of another film to compare this to, however, if you like drama with moments of mystery/crime, this is a good pick.
