Really hated this--Woods is odious, his character is gross, Belushi bumbles along and provides very un-needed comic relief. It's a mess. and a squandering of a good and important story.
Really surprised by how vast and epic this was considering it was only Oliver Stone’s second(?) feature. James Woods stars as a journalist who wants to find the next big political story in El Salvador. Jim Belushi provides the comedy moments and it has a rather unexpectedly moving conclusion.
Oliver Stone shows in often very graphical terms the atrocities committed in El Salvador during the civil war in 1980. He is also very critical towards the role of the Americans in these atrocities who are one of the main parties that fuelled and encouraged this atrocious war. James Woods plays a character I really appreciate, given that he is essentially a broken loser but when it counts, he stands up for his friends and his beliefs. A good movie whit some graphic scenes that are not for the faint of heart.
Two American journalists in the middle of a troubled country.
