A good story buried under a film that didn't know how to tell it. The casteism angle had real potential - rare for a big budget Bollywood period film. Ranbir playing father and son is genuinely interesting casting and he commits fully to both. But the pacing is relentless in the wrong way, songs interrupt every momentum the film builds, and Sanjay Dutt as a villain for the hundredth time adds nothing new. ₹150 crore spent. Felt like none of it went to the screenplay and then there is Vaani Kapoor, whose makeup and dresses feels way out of place.
Hollywood has Batman begins Bollywood now has Crow man begins
In no way this is a perfect movie but I don't think it's terrible either...first half had a pacing issue with too many songs and character development isn't up to the mark either but still I think this is an enjoyable movie...if it were from the south it would get praised more IMO...
Lazy, Excruciating, Dispensable Shamshera is an undercooked, monotonous, and slow-paced actioner with revenge and freedom at its core. Even with the presence of refined actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, Shamshera fails to get hold of your attention due to its lackluster screenplay, unexciting songs, and silly character developments. The film's cinematography, production values, and performances are good especially Ranbir in a never seen avatar and Sanjay Dutt's brutal and menacing act. But the film falls short in terms of engaging the audience as the screenplay is excruciating and slow and all supporting characters are underdeveloped. The film may please a certain section due to its massy elements but on a higher level, Shamshera is more sham and less shera overall. Check my page www.instagram.com/stream.genx
