Sylvester Stallone and Matthew Modine lead the cast (sort of) in the crime thriller Backtrace. When a bank heist goes bad the last surviving robber ends up with amnesia after a shootout, and seven years later he’s broken out of prison by a new crew with an experimental treatment that they think can help him remember where he hid the bank money. It’s not that bad a story, but it’s stretched a little thin and has some pretty predictable twists. Still, there are some good action scenes and a few intense moments. Entertaining but forgettable, Backtrace is a mediocre action film.
What waste of time.:person_facepalming_tone1:
🎥 Backtrace (2018) Movie 🎥 Imagine a case that’s been closed for over ten years, but reopens after a criminal with amnesia escapes! 📜 Plot: The story revolves around Mac Donald, a criminal who lost his memory after a failed robbery. After years in prison, he is broken out by a group of criminals who use an experimental drug to restore his memory about the stolen money’s location. _"If we step between him and his past we could fragment the imagery."_ And such are the lines you can expect to hear throughout this absolutely awful mess of a movie. Additionally, do not be deceived by the cover art: This is **not** a Sylvester Stallone movie; Stallone plays a supporting character only…and if he has any common sense, would probably like to renounce this stinker. From the absolutely wooden acting by a cast of C-members (as opposed to an A-list) to the dialogue to the entire storyline, this thing just reeks of stupidity mixed 50/50 with absurdity. The entire premise of a single-dose drug that can suddenly affect the frontal lobe, bringing back (slowly, yes, but it _does_ work!) an entire plethora of memories... ai yi yi... I just... I don't know if I can express adequately enough how ridiculous this whole film was. The acting was horrible; the script was horrible; the dialogue was horrible, the choreography of the gunfight in the opening scenes of the movie was horrible... the ONLY positive I can even remotely give this film is the musical score. So, if you want to turn the screen off...well, no, forget that because you would still have to hear the dialogue if you wanted to enjoy the musical score. So with that being said, it's best to just ignore this one altogether. This is **not** a Sylvester Stallone action-type film; this is an atrocity that I regrettably sat through so I could spare you the agony. On a side note: When I was in high school, I would write stories; fictional stories centered around myself, my small circle of friends, and the people I knew personally. All of these stories would glamorize ME and were so ridiculously fabricated that, years later as a not-so-young-anymore adult, I cringed when trying to read them (and ultimately wound up throwing them into a firepit never to be seen again). This movie - including its incredibly ridiculous conclusion - was similar to those horrible, far-fetched, self-glamorizing stories. This was completely awful.
My dad’s succinct review of this movie: “It’s just a bloke running around with his hands on his head for an hour!” You’re not wrong, Dad. You’re not wrong.
