The original Benji was the first film I ever saw at the cinema, so this little mutt has a special place in my heart. This remake isn't particularly special, though kids will enjoy it. I'm also grateful the first film I ever saw at the cinema wasn't Cujo - Benji shaped my morals in the right way, Cujo would have dragged my sensitive sensibilities through the mud and turned me into a serial killer. Probably!
This was filled with literally every cliche in the book, the acting of the humans was stiff and lacked depth, and the animals were supernaturally smart. Nice cinematography and the dogs did excellent jobs but not enough to save this movie. Plus the weird religious undertones were off-putting. Throughout I kept thinking "this scene would work way better if Benji was talking to us as the audience" but then again, the rest of the movie would have remained as cookie-cutter as it is.

Growing up I was a huge fan of the original. That being said, this is probably one of the few remakes where I wasnt upset about it. I wanted to see Benji again. And this was such a cute movie! Perfect nod to the original film.
I don't know. Netflix had to mess this classic. I didn't like it was passed in New Orleans, also the Original Benji was much more realistic than this one as Benji now open doors turning keys lol too silly. But I strong recommend the original Benji movie, this one is just a shadow, it had its cute moments, but still not comparable.
