This is a movie that I can imagine Roger Ebert would describe more eloquently than I could. In a sense this film is a character study of people that are quietly slugging away through life living just above the poverty line. They seem to drink a lot and are rather quiet and depressed. The main character seems to fit right in to this society. Unlike the others he is still hopeful. Like the rest of the film the last scene is subtle.
