This is one of my favorite musicals. It contains some of the most iconic music such as "luck be a lady tonight" and "sit down you're rockin the boat". Frank Sinatra is as amazing as ever. And while many criticized Marlon Brando, I loved him as Skye. He was smooth, and seductive, and I could see any missionary falling for him..Yes, he did not have the strong singing talent as many others, but he was such a great character that he really made up for what he was lacking vocally. Overall, this is a great musical that I could watch over and over again.
Loved the production style, all garish colors and heightened Broadway mobster aesthetics. But the musical itself was little fun, and it wasn't helped by a main cast that all felt out of place. Brando in particular stuck out like a sore thumb--his style just doesn't mesh with the older-style musical this was, and it dragged everything down. Jean Simmons is a delight, as always, but she couldn't rescue the turgid screenplay or the excessive run time.
