This film was a remake of the 1934 Shirley Temple film of the same name, made at the height of her fame. In this film, Walter Matthau plays a bookie named Sorrowful, who agrees to hold onto Sara Stimson as a marker for her father's debt. The seven-year-old Stimson, known as "the Kid," was made to be six-years-old in the film, and she did a fantastic job in her only acting role. Dame Julie Andrews was her typical charming self as a mother figure to Stimson's character. [spoiler]This was a really sweet story about a man, who believed in nothing, coming to the realization that he loved a little girl left in his care, who had nothing left to believe in.[/spoiler].
