As a fan of the podcast, I have to say that just being able to see Barry and Ian's antics instead of solely hearing about them was a real treat. The two really make quite a pair, with Ian's irreverent sense of humour and overwhelming skepticism perfectly complementing Barry's skittishness and firm belief in the paranormal. The mid-film montage in particular had me absolutely howling with some of the stunts Ian ended up pulling! I will say that I'm not sure if people unfamiliar with the podcast would get much out of it, though. At the very least, you need to know going in that it's a comedy film first, and an exploration of the paranormal second; misconceptions around this certainly seemed to colour a lot of the negative reviews I saw. Also, from the filmmaking side, there are times where it comes across as a bit amateurish. The opening studio conversation between Barry and Ian was particularly jarring; I think I've seen fewer cuts per minute in the average Marvel action scene, and this was for what amounted to a bunch of shot/reverse shots. It also felt like the pacing was a bit off. I can't point to any particular scenes I'd shorten or cut (though maybe the part in the woods and the skeptic conference), but the first half of the film in particular felt kind of meandering at times. The podcast episodes tended to run about an hour each, and I think if the film was closer to that (or maybe 90 minutes at the outside), it would feel a lot tighter overall. I still got a lot of enjoyment out of it, though! From what little I know about the production side, apparently it was made on a tiny budget and took years to get it across the finish line (for quite a while I actually thought it got canned), so it feels like a small miracle I was even able to watch it, let alone that I wanted to see it through to the end. It's not one I'm champing at the bit to watch again, but as a capstone to the ParaPod project, there are certainly worse ways it could have sent it off.
