Another enjoyable character-based drama from Holofcener, who seems to specialise in this kind of thing. Not life-changing, and not completely original, but it is worth your time.

This film about a man trying to put his life back together isn't going to blow anyone away, but I think that is partially the point. There isn't always going to be a big "a-ha" moment like there is when you quit drinking. If the goal of this film was to somehow make upper middle class, white, east coast suburbanites seem more vapid than we imagined so that we hate them even more...well, achievement unlocked? Perhaps I'm not the target audience, but even so, I should want to care, even casually, about at least one of the characters, right? And there should be some sort of growth, right? The "changes" at the end of the film don't feel like they'll stick knowing the characters from the preceding 90 minutes...so what's really the point? Again, unless the point is just to hate this class of people even more than I already do.
