This is the movie that made me realize there are no UFOs and no aliens from space and despite all the stories about government cover-ups and hoopla, the 'powers that be' benefit from the belief in UFOs and aliens most of all. The biggest conspiracy of all is there is a big conspiracy to cover up....whatever. There's not really any cover-up other than the cover-up of the fact there is no conspiracy and no cover up. Once you grow up and realize this fact, the world makes a lot more sense and you'll realize that people who covet power will always use your beliefs in something crazy to control you. To put it most basically, stories of UFO sightings and rampant stories of cover-ups of alien technology are as fabricated and manipulative as the Flavian Caesars' use of the beliefs of messianic cults to create the Christ as Messiah stories 2000 years ago. The Dirt worshipers and desert nomads kept circulating stories and claiming to have witnessed some random Jew walking on water and raising people from the dead, but when they looked into this Jesus of Nazareth character, all they could find was some records of him having been crucified out in Bumwaterville, Middle of Nowhere by Pilot some decades before. Seeing the opportunity, they co-opted all the stories and layered in some of their own mythic quotes, "Render onto Caesar what is his..." and whatnot, and created their own Messianic Cult to end all the other Gnostic bullshitter sects gaining popularity. UFOs follow the same trajectory....countless farmers claiming to have been "abducted and probed" and their stories gaining currency with crazy people became more of a opportunity to control than a mere amusing distraction. If you want to control people, let them believe that their crazy fantasies are real...and that's what the military and government do with the belief in UFOs. There are no UFOs. There are no aliens. The need for them to be real comes from the same faith hole in people that makes them believe in miracles, angels, and ghosts.
