For Queen and Country wants to be a searing social drama but ends up as a slow shuffle through undercooked ideas. Denzel Washington does his best with the material, Amanda Redman is fine but chemistry-free, and Dorian Healy’s Fish is a charisma vacuum. Jo Martin completists can blink and miss her cameo; everyone else can safely pass this by in favour of sharper, more urgent films tackling the same themes.
This early Denzel Washington movie had a bigger impact on me than I thought it would. The filming locations and actors really make it feel how it used to be. No glamour or polished scenes. That is what made it so impactful for me. Normally the next day after a movie I do not think too much of it again, but this one has stayed with me over the days after I viewed it. If you can find it, I would give it a try.
