I chose this movie for my weekly swap with Joe. I had been wanting to see this for a while now. I’ve been kind of feeling passionless in my own life lately. This just sounded like the perfect movie for me at the moment based on the script. It sounded like something I’d be really into. Unfortunately I never really found myself overwhelmingly invested in this story. It’s a good movie with incredible performances. I suppose the passion is there but I never really felt it. The story kind of felt slightly rushed and underdeveloped to me. When I watch movies like this and dramatic movies in general I always want to feel something. I guess my goal is to walk away feeling emotional, heartbroken or moved but I have to feel something. I just never became emotionally invested at any point in this movie. Robert Duvall was remarkable and will always be a legend. I also really liked Tess Harper, she was lovely to watch. Then there was Ellen Barkin, whom I didn’t recognize at all. I didn’t know she was so gorgeous back in the 80s. I just found this kind of slow and a bit boring. I just wish I felt something and was more invested. Based on how it started I really expected so much more from it. I wish they dove deeper into the addiction storyline and let the relationship between the leads develop more from the start. It’s definitely not a bad movie though it just didn’t hit me the way I had hoped it would. * Movie swapping with Joe
