IN WHAT WORLD IS THIS EVEN PARTIALLY A COMEDY! But yeah... can't remember the last time a movie made me this sad... and happy? I don't know. I just know I cried a lot and that this movie certainly is something special.

The plot and pacing are actually so bad I almost stopped watching this.

A perfectly balanced film! Right off the bat, the cast interacts beautifully with the story, balancing the impending tragedy with gentle humor and a procession of quirky secondary characters. The film presents an impressive collection of personalities alongside strong, bold performances. Rie Miyazawa is painfully fragile yet selfless, while Joe Odagiri’s womanizing husband character remains somehow likable. But the one who truly stole the show was 11-year-old Hana Sugisaki, representing the bravest of the younger generation, taking on pain and responsibility while stubbornly holding onto her youthful spirit. Directed by Ryôta Nakano, who also penned the dazzling script, the movie delivers an emotional, tear-jerking journey through family dynamics, neatly interwoven with humor and punctuated by multiple surprises. The sound design is solid, though a fully immersive surround effect feels a bit lacking; however, the set designs leave nothing to be desired. Overall, Her Love Boils Bathwater is uplifting and enriches the viewer with every scene. A wonderfully balanced film that absolutely deserves to be watched!
